Mother's Day

Happy mother's day to all the wonderful mothers I know.
Sometimes mother's day is hard for me to think about without getting a bit sad and I really miss my mom. (Other times, I feel liberated because even if I forgot to send a card or flowers, it's not the end of the world.) 2009 marks the 10th year anniversary of her passing, I'm currently taking ideas about how to honor her, so feel free to send your suggestions.
My aunt (who's always been like a mother to me) and my mom, way back in the day:

i never had the pleasure to meet your mother, catherine, but remember these things: empanadas, you speaking spanish on the phone and a few stories.

i'd like to suggest (dancing!), actually a party nothing large (or maybe so. . .) with a menu of her favorite foods and drinks. i attended a party of this sort for a friend of mine who lost her beloved grandmother a year or so after her death and it was lovely. the loss was not the matter of the affair, but the life. that is cause for a celebration, no?

food is so many things- a language, a celebration, a comfort, a memory. entonces, cuando estas lista digame y voy a irme a tu casa para un fiesta. vamos a celebrar tu madre, las madres y vida. dime amiga.
