Spring Break Road trip

As most of you know, the California state budget has been in the red for quite some time now. What that meant for us was a pay reduction for CD in the form of furloughs. He gets paid less, but he also works less (don't tell the students since they get less education and by the way, they've also increased their tuition, yikes!)
To take advantage of this, we decided to combine those furloughs with personal holidays for a two week spring break vacation. Our destination: Northern Arizona and Southern Utah. A massive tour of the Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Escalante and Capitol Reef- the whole Grand Staircase!
Little did we realize that it would still be too cold and snowy which limited our camping, our hiking and sightseeing. We got caught in a couple of blizzard type storms, we braved some wicked winds, we ended up in Vegas.
It was amazing and beautiful and extremely interesting for me since I am currently enrolled in an intro geology course here at HSU. I will actually be writing a report on the rock formations I encountered to make up for one of the missed field trips.
Our itinerary:
Arizona: Painted desert, Meteor crater, Grand Canyon (South rim)
Utah: Zion, Capitol Reef, Kodachrome Basin, Bryce
Nevada: Las Vegas
California: Death Valley
